The 3D Fit Finder tool on the Gap Inc website revolutionizes online shopping by providing an innovative way to find the perfect size and fit for clothing items. Using advanced technology, this tool enables users to create a personalized avatar based on their body measurements and preferences.

By virtually trying on different garments and visualizing how they would look and fit, customers can make more informed decisions, reducing the likelihood of returns and ensuring a satisfying shopping experience. The 3D Fit Finder tool redefines convenience and accuracy in the world of online fashion retail, enhancing customer satisfaction and confidence in their purchases.

Several techniques were employed according to the needs for the execution of design alterations. Task analysis, conversing with users, constructing wireframes, creating storyboards, conducting A/B tests, developing personas, and performing affinity diagramming were used in the product's design.

Roadblocks

The design procedure incorporated numerous rounds of revisions, constantly drawing on the input of various stakeholders. It required interpreting techpacks from the fashion industry, transforming them into 3D simulated clothing assets, then integrating these into the 3D content management system.

Post this, it underwent AI simulation and was optimized for 3D fitting on a web-based platform used by Gap and Old Navy. The development of the process entailed multiple stages until reaching a state of efficiency.

Having been the founding team recruited from India in 2021, we were tasked with executing some complex tasks in 3D simulated fashion asset creation using CLO3D, texture development via Substance3D, and asset export optimisation. Over time, I switched to research and development operations, collaborating with various partners to design plugins, enhancing UX, and focusing on achieving accurately fitting 3D models by using the physics-based simulation GenAI. This experience taught me how to perform efficiently in an environment that involved multiple disciplines and how to handle anticipations.
