Project Overview
Drapr, a YC backed startup, was acquired by GAP to reduce product returns by utilizing 3D fitting technology.
As a founding team member, I assisted in resolving several intriguing and intricate issues in the ecommerce domain.
The 3D Fit Finder tool on the Gap and OldNavy website and apps revolutionizes online shopping by providing an innovative way to find the perfect size and fit for clothing items. Using physics based gen AI simulation, this tool enables users to create a personalized avatar based on their body measurements and preferences.
Customers can choose from a range of styles from GAP and OldNavy and model them on their 3d replica to check the fit of the clothing. This could potentially save substantial time, as well as lower the number of returns.

Context and the Why ?

Product returns have emerged as a significant concern for numerous online
businesses globally. For us, understanding the root of this dilemma was of utmost significance.
85% of consumers expressing frustration over varying fit between clothing items of the same size.
40% of online apparel purchases being returned due to sizing issues.
Remember last time when your jeans didn't fit, you had to do all that hustle. Guess what for a company its also a big headache. Through 3D Fit at GAP Inc. I solved that problem which impacted in reduced returned and more than 120 M Interactions.
How users use the product ?
Find your fit. Enter your
height and weight details
to create your avatar.
Through illustrative presentations that request data, users find it more straightforward to share particulars.
Before continuing, we request users to verify their physical measurements in an effort to simplify the overall process and reduce cognitive load.
The final stage involves fine-tuning some additional aspects, and the 3d replica with simulated garment is prepared.
Once confirmed, the 3D fit will display suggestions accordingly.

My Learning
Being a key contributor in a crucial team at GAP, I was fortunate to take part
in the project right from the start. This presented a series of hurdles, but at the end of the day, I
successfully exhibited how impactful designers can be on business indicators effectively.
Having been the founding team recruited from India in 2021, we were tasked with executing some complex tasks in 3D simulated fashion asset creation using CLO3D, texture development via Substance3D, and asset export optimisation.
This experience taught me how to perform efficiently in an environment that involved multiple disciplines and how to handle anticipations.
Over time, I switched to research and development operations, collaborating with various partners to design plugins, enhancing UX, and focusing on achieving accurately fitting 3D models by using the physics-based simulation GenAI.
